Why a normal list doesn't save you

A shopping list only works if you look at it. You look at it when you planned the trip. You don't look at it when you're at the hardware store that shares a parking lot with a supermarket. Which is exactly when the toilet paper would have been easy.

You didn't forget. It just wasn't on your mind at the time. So Roaminder keeps it on its mind for you.

How it works

1. Put it on the list. Type it, say it, snap a photo of a handwritten list, or scan a barcode.

2. Forget about it. Close the app. Roaminder knows what kind of store sells each thing on your list: milk at a grocery store, batteries at a grocery or hardware store, dog food at a pet store.

3. Get a nudge. When you're near a store that sells something on your list, your phone lets you know which store and which items. Pop in, grab it, done. No second trip.

One list, every store

You don't make a list per store. Put everything on one list, and each store only shows you the things it carries.

Best Stop picks the one nearby store that covers the most of your list, so you're not driving all over town. Map my Route plans the trip when you do need a few stops.

Only want something from one place? Say "apples from WinCo", or set a store preference on the item, and that's the only store that reminds you.

Not just shopping

Errands. "Pick up dry cleaning" or "drop off the package" works the same way. You get the reminder when you're at that place.

Things you buy every week. Set Automatic Reminders on an item, and it puts itself back on the list when it's due. The Pantry learns how fast you go through things and shows what's running low.

Membership cards. Save a store's card in the app. Walk up to that store and the barcode is right there, full screen, ready to scan.

Common questions

Is there an app that reminds me to buy something when I'm near the store?

Yes, that's what Roaminder is for. Add the item, and when you're near a store that sells it, your phone reminds you.

Does it work when the app is closed?

Yes. Allow notifications and set location to "Allow all the time." Without background location, the list still works and shows you nearby stores when you open the app. It just can't tap you on the shoulder while it's closed.

How close do I have to be?

You choose, from about a fifth of a mile to about half a mile. It waits until you're actually there for a moment, so you don't get pinged at every red light.

Will it bug me every time I drive past the same store?

No. After it tells you about a store, that store stays quiet for five hours. Live next to a shopping center? Draw an Exclusion Zone around home or work and it goes silent there.

Does it know what's actually on the shelf?

No, and it won't pretend to. It knows what kind of store a place is, not what's in stock today. A grocery store almost always has milk, but Roaminder can't promise it.

Can I skip stores I never shop at?

Yes. Hide one store, block a whole brand, or switch off a type of store, like gas stations.

Does it track me?

Your location is used to find stores near you, then thrown away. There's no history of where you've been, and nothing is sold.
